Teamshares is a for-profit company, that helps American small businesses become employee-owned through good governance, education, and proprietary digital products that make financials and operations better.

The problem
When an owner of a small business decides to retire, they frequently put their business up for sale. 70% of those small businesses fail to find a buyer. If these businesses shut down, it creates a lose-lose scenario.
The owner loses their retirement money, all the employees lose their jobs, and the community loses a valuable business.
Our solution
Teamshares buys these companies from retiring owners and immediately grants a portion of the stock to the employees of that company — making them owners. We do this because we believe that employee ownership is a win-win.
Through training and opportunity, employees' stake and wealth grow with the company, with a goal of 80% employee ownership over time. As a result, the company remains locally owned and embedded within the community, and the succession issue is permanently solved for the business.
