Teamshares has deep Canadian roots
Co-founder & CEO Michael Brown is a Canadian citizen whose family has been involved locally in Victoria, BC business, government and military for five generations. The Teamshares journey began after he and fellow Co-founder Alex Eu acquired electrical maintenance firms in Alberta starting in 2013. Together, they learned—through the school of hard knocks—how to transition businesses from retiring owners and become permanent stewards of family businesses in need of succession. They also learned about employee ownership from some of the great construction companies based in Edmonton.
Inspired by their win-win model, they joined forces with Co-founder Kevin Shiiba to found Teamshares to create a repeatable model that helps employees earn stock at the point of retirement and enables founders to retire confidently.
Our Commitment to Canada
Canada is entering a period of generational business transition. Our goal is to keep companies local and independent, protect jobs, and support communities for the long term.
Teamshares is a permanent home for businesses. Through our model, employees earn company stock over time, building meaningful ownership at their workplace. Retiring owners, employee owners, companies, and local economies all win together.
Teamshares is bringing experience from nearly 90 transitions in the US and Japan to support Canadian small business for generations to come.
